Acting and Drama Classes
Fall 2024
Our acting and drama classes provide age appropriate instruction for student who wish to explore creativity and performance.
Mondays, 5-6 pm - Junior Drama – Grades K-2nd - Instructor: Eliza Yarbrough-Saxon
In this class our youngest actors will begin exploring and using their actors’ tools - their bodies, voices, and imaginations! They will use these skills along with creative drama to explore magical worlds, tell stories, create characters, and go on adventures of all kinds. This ensemble based class is the perfect starting point for any young artist interested in theatre and story telling.
Mondays, 6-7 pm - Junior Drama – Grades 3rd-5th - Instructor: Eliza Yarbrough-Saxon
Junior Drama is a dynamic and engaging introduction to the world of acting and performance designed specifically for younger students. Through imaginative play, storytelling, and basic acting techniques, children will explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop fundamental skills essential for both performance and everyday communication. This class will focus on an introduction to acting, creativity and imagination, collaboration and communication, and performance skills.
Tuesdays, 8-9 pm - Acting On Camera – Grades 6th-12th - Instructor: Eliza Yarborough-Saxon
Students will delve into the fundamental principles of on-screen acting, learning to navigate the nuances of facial expressions, body language, and vocal modulation that translate powerfully through the lens. From close-ups to wide shots, from monologues to ensemble scenes, participants will explore a range of cinematic techniques designed to enhance their storytelling abilities.
Wednesdays, 7-8 pm - Acting Fundamentals – Grades 6th-12th - Instructor: Greg Schick
Students will delve into key aspects of acting, including voice, movement, improvisation and character development. Participants will learn essential techniques to express emotions authentically, develop believable characters, and effectively communicate narratives on stage and screen. Interactive exercises, scene study, and monologue work will form the core of the curriculum, offering students ample opportunity to explore and apply what they learn in a supportive and encouraging environment. Emphasis will be placed on developing a nuanced understanding of text analysis, emotional vulnerability, and the physicality required to inhabit diverse roles.
Wednesdays, 8-9 pm - Improv – Grades 6th-12th - Instructors: KSU Student Improv Group
Led by skilled instructors, students will engage in a series of playful exercises and games that sharpen quick thinking, enhance collaboration, and foster fearless expression. Through improvisation, participants will learn to trust their instincts, embrace uncertainty, and unleash their comedic and dramatic talents in a supportive and lively atmosphere.
Thursdays, 8-9 pm - Auditioning Class – Grades 6th-12th - Instructor: Greg Schick
This course is designed to equip aspiring performers with the essential skills and knowledge necessary to excel in auditions whether at Firefly, their school theatre program, or college auditions. Through a combination of practical exercises, theoretical discussions, and simulated auditions, students will develop confidence, versatility, and a thorough understanding of the audition process. Activities will include song selection, monologues, and cold reads.
Classes begin the week of August 5, 2024, and continue to October 18. (No rehearsals CCSD breaks: Sept 2, Sept 23-27. We will have class on Asynchronous days.)
