Musical Theatre Classes
Fall 2024

Our musical theatre classes provide age appropriate instruction for student who wish to explore the trio of singing, dancing, and acting.

Tuesdays, 4-5 pm - Musical Theatre Jr K-2 – Grades K-2nd - Instructor: Eliza Yarbrough-Saxon

In this class our youngest actors will begin exploring and using their actors’ tools - their bodies, voices, and imaginations! They will use these skills along with creative drama to explore magical worlds, tell stories, create characters, and go on adventures of all kinds. This ensemble based class is the perfect starting point for any young artist interested in theatre and story telling. 

Tuesdays, 5-6 pm - Musical Theatre Jr 3-5 – Grades 3rd-5th - Instructor: Eliza Yarbrough-Saxon

Junior Drama is a dynamic and engaging introduction to the world of acting and performance designed specifically for younger students. Through imaginative play, storytelling, and basic acting techniques, children will explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop fundamental skills essential for both performance and everyday communication. This class will focus on an introduction to acting, creativity and imagination, collaboration and communication, and performance skills.

Classes begin the week of August 5, 2024, and continue to October 18. (No rehearsals CCSD breaks: Sept 2, Sept 23-27. We will have class on Asynchronous days.)

Saturdays, 1:30-3:30 pm - JTF Troupe - Grades 6th-12th - Instructors: Meredith Bennett, Alex Self, Katie Wood

The JTF Troupe is Firefly’s advanced musical theatre competition class. Admission is by audition only. Students with a solid foundation in singing, acting, and dancing delve deeper into the integration of these disciplines. The focus is on refining skills, enhancing versatility, and mastering the intricate balance required for compelling musical theatre performances.

The atmosphere is dynamic and collaborative, fostering a community where creativity thrives. Class sessions often begin with rigorous vocal warm-ups tailored to expand vocal range and strengthen control, essential for delivering powerful musical numbers. Acting exercises then challenge students to delve into character development, emphasizing emotional authenticity and nuanced storytelling.

Choreography sessions are a blend of precision and expression, where students learn complex dance routines that complement the narrative of the songs. Techniques such as partnering, ensemble coordination, and stage presence are honed to ensure seamless and captivating performances.
